It shares many common traits with the PT Cruiser.
Made by Chrysler (indirectly)
Similar body shape/form factor
Similar mission
Not the best thing in the world to drive, could be considered slow.
People put wood paneling on them.
I unfortunately (or fortunately?) cannot find a picture of the 500L with wood paneling, but I have seen one in the wild!

Like for me, the 500L has a similar love-ability to the PT Cruiser in that I’d think they’re adorable if I saw them on the road but I would NEVER want to own one.

They should sell it as the Chrysler PT Cruiser over here
Fiat’s US lineup needs a model that doesn’t have 500 in its name.

I don’t think selling it as the PT Cruiser would work too well, it looks retro, but not American retro.
I do agree that they need something that doesn’t have a 500 in it’s name though.

I don’t think the PT cruiser is adorable, but to each his own.
I think the 500L is more acceptable to be seen in, and the interior does’t look like the worst, but it’s still not very desirable.

Good lord you are correct, gasp.

I hate the PT.
I find the 500L mostly inoffensive, though the outside needs an update ASAP. The inside is particularly lovely. Not as nice as a Jaguar or Volvo, but well-done and pleasantly airy, with good visibility to boot.

The one major difference between them is that the PT Cruiser was released to MAJOR fanfare and tons of people wanted one. The Fiat was more like “what the fuck is that over styled blob?” and I’ve ever only seen one on the road.

Yeah, I am aware of that. I was going to put that in and then forgot to!

Except that there was a period between 2001-2002 when DaimlerChrysler literally couldn’t built PTs fast enough and dealers were running waiting lists. Unfortunately for Fiat Chrysler, I don’t see the same thing ever happening for the 500L.
